Karla earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Colorado and returned later for a degree in Fine Arts. After teaching junior high and high school science and math in California and Colorado for 12 years Karla made a big career change to working as a flight attendant for Pan Am. For a number of years she spent time traveling around the world hiking, scuba diving and especially visiting many spiritual and sacred sites in Nepal, India, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Japan, and Europe, with the climb to Mt Everest Base Camp, perhaps, touching her most deeply .

After marrying Pete, an American working in Saudi Arabia, she moved to Jeddah and made a successful foray into marketing her local photography and handmade, one-of-a-kind, collectors’ teddy bears. Next was a move to Japan and soon after another move to Australia. There Karla got her teddy bear business in swing again, soon having more orders than she could handle from fellow Aussies and collectors around the world. Karla began experimenting with making old, worn out, antique-looking bears which she called "Lost In Time Teddies." They were an instant success and the wounded and battered bears prompted her customers to begin sharing intimately about their own disappointments, traumas and upsets. As time passed and Karla realized she was doing more and more "teddy therapy" she decided to leave bear making and obtain training in the counseling and healing work she was already doing through the bears. This led to an intensive period of training in transpersonal counseling and psychology at the Icon Institute, several energy-healing modalities, meditation, and 2 unusual Australian energetic bodywork therapies, Bowen/NST and the Horstmann Technique. After 16 years overseas Karla and her husband returned to Boulder where she set up her business, WINDSONG HEALING ARTS, LLC at her beautiful home office against the foothills north of town. She continued adding to her healing skills with a certification course in hypnotherapy, and in Woolger Past Life Regression Therapy. She has also become the only American instructor for the Horstmann Technique bodywork modality, although she no longer teaches. Karla emphasizes her flexible hours which include evenings and weekends. She treats a wide variety of clients adapting her sessions to each individual. She brings an enormous amount of compassion and love to assisting her clients toward greater wellness, balance and enjoyment of life.
